A Guide to Kata- Thailand

After hearing all about the culture and the experiences that Thailand is known for, I decided it was time to pack my bags and experience this for myself. As I started to research where to go and what to do I decided to book at the Foto Hotel in Kata. As much I love the hustle and bustle of city life and don’t get agitated by crowds, the purpose of this trip was for some much needed rest and relaxation.

Why stay at the Foto Hotel?

If you are wanting a relaxing setting that has all the quirks without breaking the bank balance, then this is the place for you! My fiancé and I stayed at the Foto Hotel for five nights in an ocean view room. The room was spacious with a massive king size bed, outdoor bath and ottoman, and free daily mini bar…yes FREE!!! The staff are great, so friendly and willing to go out of their way to help you. Other things that my fiancé and I loved was the infinity pool that looks over the Andaman Sea, happy hour and all you can eat buffet breakfast served until one. I am guilty of having breakfast, going for a dip in the pool and then reloading again at the buffet!

Things to do around Kata

Did I mention that the Foto Hotel has a free shuttle bus service for all hotel guests? I definitely took advantage of this service! The shuttle will drop you off and pick you up right in the heart of Kata across the road from the beach. There, you will find an abundance of shops, restaurants and hawkers wanting to sell you all kinds of things including renting a beach umbrella and soft plastic mats to lay on when you are people watching on the beach. The water was warm and not too rough so fine for all eager swimmers of different levels (just make sure to stay between the flags).

Water activities at Kata Beach

If you are wanting a break from people watching and can feel the adrenaline building up then I would highly recommend having a go at parasailing, jet skiing and riding the “couch”. Parasailing is an excellent way to take in all that Kata has to offer from the sky, so if you have a selfie stick on you, and are confident enough to take it with you, this will give you the opportunity to capture Kata and its surrounds! If jet skiing, make sure to check the jet ski before you go and point out to the operator if you notice any marks.

And when the day is near to a close, celebrate with a cocktail and a sunset

Literally just up the road from the Foto Hotel is “Pornthep Cape.” This is the place to capture the sunset at the end of the day. And whilst you are capturing this moment why not have a drink at one of the following beach bars: Afterbeach Bar, Heaven Restaurant and Bar or Small Viewpoint Seafood and Bar. Or if you are in the mood for something a little more romantic, then I would recommend the Boathouse Restaurant. This restaurant is located on the beachfront of Kata Beach with impressive views. The cuisine that the Boathouse offers is Western and Thai and they also specialise in Steak. Be sure to book at least a week in advance to ensure you get one of the best seats in the house!
